Yiaga Africa has revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had deployed officials to 78 per cent of the 300 polling units being monitored by it as of 8:30am in the ongoing Osun State governorship election on Saturday.

This was disclosed via its official X handle on Saturday, indicating that 251 of the polling units it monitored opened as of 8:30am.

TVC News Online reports that Yiaga Africa is monitoring the Osun governorship poll.

“By 8:30am, INEC officials had arrived at 78% of the 300 polling units where our #WatchingTheVote observers are reporting from. This provides an early snapshot of the pace of preparations across the polling units being observed,” tweeted Yiaga Africa.

The election observation group added its observers were monitoring developments across the polling units and would continue to provide updates on the conduct of the exercise.

The early assessment comes as election officials and voters prepare for voting, with the arrival of polling personnel and timely setup of polling units considered key to ensuring a smooth electoral process.

TVC News reports that voters, election officials and sensitive materials arrived early at several polling units across Osun State ahead of the commencement of voting in Saturday’s governorship election.

The election is widely seen as a keen contest between the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, although 10 other candidates are also on the ballot.
