INEC Displays Personal Particulars of 2027 Presidential, NASS Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 General Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The electoral umpire disclosed the development in a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, saying the exercise is in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.

According to INEC, the display is taking place at its FCT State Headquarters in Abuja and simultaneously across its offices in the six Area Councils of the territory.

The Commission said the exercise is intended to promote transparency by allowing members of the public to scrutinise the credentials, affidavits and other documents submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

Representing the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the FCT, the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the publication of candidates’ particulars is a legal requirement under the Electoral Act.

She explained that the display covers presidential candidates and National Assembly candidates contesting elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to her, making the documents available across all Area Council offices is aimed at ensuring easy public access and encouraging greater participation in the electoral process.

Oladunjoye described the exercise as a critical component of transparent elections, urging Nigerians and other stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunity to examine the information submitted by candidates.
She called on citizens, political parties, civil society organisations and the media to participate actively in the process by scrutinising the displayed documents.

“The Commission is on course with its preparations for the 2027 General Elections and will continue to carry out every stage of the electoral process in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines,” she said.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent elections, while calling on all stakeholders to continue supporting the Commission’s efforts to ensure a successful electoral process.

The Commission noted that the public display of candidates’ personal particulars is a key legal requirement designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
