The Red Devils became the first winners of the trophy in 1908 after overcoming Queens Park Rangers in the inaugural edition.

The first encounter between Manchester United and QPR ended 1-1 on April 27, 1908, leading to a replay several months later.

When the teams met again in late August, United delivered a commanding performance, defeating QPR 4-0 to secure the first Charity Shield.

James Turnbull was the standout player, scoring a hat-trick as Manchester United comfortably claimed the historic trophy.
