FCT to Enforce Restrictions on Keke, Okada Operations -Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved logistics support for security agencies to enforce restrictions on the operation of commercial tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and motorcycles (Okada) in some parts of Abuja.

Wike disclosed this during a media chat on Tuesday, August 4, saying the FCT Administration had begun mapping out areas where the operation of commercial tricycles and motorcycles would no longer be permitted.

The minister explained that while a complete ban across the Federal Capital Territory would be difficult to implement, restricting their operations within the city centre was necessary.

“Just this morning, I signed an approval because we had an Executive Council meeting. I’ve told the security details to map out areas where we do not need the Keke NAPEP and motorcycles,” Wike said.

He added that the restriction would focus on areas where the presence of commercial tricycles and motorcycles was considered unsuitable.

“But it’ll be difficult to ban them in the entire Abuja. Particularly, it is necessary within the city not to allow Keke NAPEP and Okada,” the minister stated.

Wike further revealed that he had approved the release of resources to support security personnel responsible for implementing the directive.

“I just made approval this morning to release some logistics,” he said.
