The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has invited Sunday Michael Ogwu to appear at its headquarters and formally submit his statement over allegations that he was assaulted by police officers in the Lugbe area of Abuja.

The command made this known in a statement on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, following videos circulated by Ogwu on social media.

According to the police, Ogwu has alleged that officers attached to Lugbe Police Station assaulted him on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, subsequently ordered a thorough investigation into the allegation to establish what transpired.

The police said the commissioner also directed that any officer found culpable should face appropriate disciplinary action in line with existing laws and regulations.

The command said it had invited Ogwu several times since Wednesday through its Public Relations Officer to appear at its headquarters, make an official statement and provide evidence to support his claims.

However, the police alleged that Ogwu declined the invitations while continuing to post videos about the incident on social media.

The command said his actions appeared to be aimed at “mobilise public sentiment and create undue pressure around an ongoing investigation.”

The police have now formally invited Ogwu to appear at the FCT Police Command Headquarters on Friday, August 21, by 12 noon to make his statement and submit relevant evidence.

“The Command hereby formally invites Mr. Sunday Michael Ogwu to visit the Command Headquarters today, 21st August, 2026 by 12:00PM, to make his official statement and present relevant evidence to substantiate his claims,” the statement said.

The command assured the public that the allegation would be thoroughly investigated and that any officer found to have acted unprofessionally would be held accountable.

“The Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability, respect for citizens’ rights and the rule of law,” it added.
