FCT Police identifies officers captured in fresh viral video extorting motorist in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command says it has identified the personnel captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from a motorist in Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that a businessman had alleged in the viral video that some police officers extorted N40,000 from him while he was on his way to an important business meeting.

According to him, the officers provided a Point of Sale, POS, account into which he transferred the money before he was allowed to leave.

The incident reportedly occurred along the Wuye-Utako Road, near Salem Church, in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the officers had been identified and were currently in custody.

The command also invited the complainant to the command’s headquarters to “tender his statement regarding the incident to aid disciplinary action.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, reiterates that the Command will not tolerate any form of extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct, or unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

“Any officer found culpable after due investigation will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with extant laws and regulations.”
