FCT Police Hands Over Suspects, Illicit Drugs to NDLEA for Prosecution

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has handed over arrested suspects and recovered illicit drugs and substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, carried out the handover on Friday, August 21, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between security and law enforcement agencies in the territory.

According to a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the move was aimed at deepening inter-agency cooperation in tackling drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across the FCT.

Sanusi said the police had the powers to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences but considered it necessary to work closely with the NDLEA, whose statutory responsibility includes investigating and prosecuting drug offences.

He said the collaboration would help strengthen the collective response to drug-related crimes in the territory.

“While nothing precludes the Command from investigating and prosecuting drug-related offences, the Command considers it necessary to maintain strong synergy and collaboration with sister security and law enforcement agencies within the FCT, particularly the NDLEA,” Sanusi said.

Receiving the suspects and recovered items on behalf of the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACN Samuel Orji, thanked the police commissioner for the handover.

Orji assured that the suspects would be properly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The FCT Police Command said it would continue to strengthen its partnership with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to improve public safety in the capital.
