Factional Accord Chairman Says Osun Voters Will Judge Adeleke On Performance

The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Imumolen, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke faces defeat in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, arguing that voters will judge his administration on its performance rather than allegations of external interference.

In a statement on Tuesday, Imumolen urged the governor to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for his political challenges and instead take responsibility for what he described as the shortcomings of his administration.

“Governor Adeleke must leave President Bola Tinubu out of his self-inflicted woes. He has failed the people of Osun State despite the huge monthly allocations flowing into the state’s coffers,” Imumolen said.

The factional Accord Party chairman alleged that residents across the state were dissatisfied with the governor’s performance and would express their verdict at the polls.

“The people of Osun State are highly sophisticated voters who will prioritise governance, accountability and tangible performance over political theatrics when they head to the polls,” he said.

Imumolen claimed that opinion polls available to his faction of the party showed Adeleke would struggle to retain office.

“Opinion polls at our disposal have clearly shown that Governor Adeleke cannot scale through the election of August 15,” he said.

Responding to concerns raised by the governor’s camp over possible electoral malpractice, Imumolen dismissed allegations of planned rigging, describing them as an attempt to explain away a potential electoral defeat.

“Nobody is planning to rig you out. The voters of Osun State are simply ready to hold you accountable for your performance, and they will use their constitutional power to elect leadership that genuinely serves them,” he said.

There are competing leadership claims within the Accord Party. Adeleke and his administration had not publicly responded to Imumolen’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
