Commonwealth Games: Team Nigeria Finishes Seventh, Emerges Africa’s Best

Nigeria amassed a total of 24 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze to secure seventh position behind Australia, England, Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand.
Australia dominated the Games with 171 medals, including 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze, while England finished second with 110 medals (29 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze). Canada placed third with 62 medals, followed by India and hosts Scotland, who each won 39 medals but were separated by their gold medal tally. New Zealand claimed sixth place with 36 medals.

Nigeria’s haul was enough to edge Jamaica, which also won 10 gold medals but finished eighth after collecting fewer silver medals, with four silvers and five bronzes.
The performance also saw Nigeria emerge as Africa’s leading nation at the Games, finishing ahead of South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius and Cameroon on the final medals table.
Team Nigeria’s campaign was highlighted by dominant performances in athletics, weightlifting, wrestling and para sports, with the country’s athletes delivering several memorable moments throughout the competition.
The seventh-place finish represents another strong outing for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games, reinforcing the country’s status as one of the continent’s leading sporting nations on the global stage.
