Chelsea Complete Signing Of Valentin Barco From Strasbourg On

Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentine midfielder Valentin Barco from French club Strasbourg, with the 21-year-old putting pen to paper on a seven-year contract as the Blues continue their busy summer recruitment.
The Premier League club did not disclose the transfer fee but confirmed that Barco will immediately link up with the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Italian giants Juventus in Hong Kong.
Barco becomes Chelsea’s sixth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha, Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra.
The Argentina international earned his first senior World Cup appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Argentina finished runners-up to Spain.
He was also involved in a controversial incident after the semi-final victory over England, when he was slapped by Jude Bellingham following the match.

A product of Boca Juniors’ famed youth academy, Barco moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2024 for a reported £7.9 million.
However, after a brief spell on England’s south coast, he joined Strasbourg following a successful loan stint, where his performances attracted Chelsea’s attention.
Barco is the second player Chelsea have signed from Strasbourg this summer, highlighting the close relationship between the two clubs, which are both owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
His arrival marks the 13th transfer involving Chelsea and Strasbourg since the start of last season, underscoring the growing collaboration between the sister clubs.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign as the Blues seek to return to the Premier League’s top ranks after a disappointing 2025-26 season.
Barco is expected to add creativity, technical quality and versatility to Chelsea’s midfield options as the club prepares for the new season.
