Paris Saint-Germain have defeated Aston Villa 2-1 to retain the UEFA Super Cup after a thrilling final at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, on Wednesday.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the 20th minute after the French champions applied early pressure on Unai Emery’s side.

Aston Villa however responded before half-time through 17-year-old Brian Madjo, who made history as the youngest player to score in the UEFA Super Cup.

PSG regained the lead in the 61st minute when Désiré Doué finished to put the Champions League winners 2-1 ahead. The goal was reviewed by VAR before being allowed to stand.

Villa pushed for another equaliser in the closing stages but PSG held firm to secure the trophy and continue their remarkable run of success in Europe.
