The Borno State Police Command has hosted participants of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Speak Up 20 Project during an institutional learning visit to its headquarters in Maiduguri.
The visit, held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, provided the young communicators with insights into the role of the Nigeria Police Force in preventing and responding to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
The participants were briefed on key areas including the reporting and investigation of SGBV cases, survivor-centred engagement and referral mechanisms for victims and survivors.
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the UNODC for the initiative.
He said the Command remained committed to strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders and improving its response to SGBV cases.
“The Borno State Police Command is committed to strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders while promoting professional, responsive and community-oriented policing.”
CP Abdulmajid also stressed the importance of effective reporting, investigation and survivor-centred approaches in addressing SGBV.
He said engagements such as the institutional learning visit would help improve understanding of the Police Force’s role in protecting vulnerable persons and responding effectively to cases of gender-based violence.

The visit formed part of efforts to equip young communicators with practical knowledge of institutional responses to SGBV and promote stronger collaboration between security institutions and other stakeholders.
