Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has urged traders in the state to support the party’s governorship candidate, Najeem Salam, in Saturday’s election.

Aregbesola made the appeal on Thursday, August 13, during a campaign visit to Orisumbare Market in Osogbo.

Speaking in Yoruba, the former governor apologised to the traders for arriving late during an earlier visit on Wednesday, which prevented him from addressing them.

He said his latest visit was to formally introduce the ADC to the traders and seek their support for Salam, popularly known as Iwaloye, in the August 15 governorship election.

Aregbesola described Salam as the candidate capable of addressing the challenges facing residents and ensuring that all sections of the state are carried along in governance.

He also distanced himself from his former political party, saying it was no longer a platform with which he could identify.

The former governor described the ADC as “a vehicle of development and uplift” capable of taking Osun State and its residents to a higher level.

Aregbesola commended the traders for their patience and perseverance, while urging them and other residents to shun violence before, during and after the election.

He called on voters to remain peaceful as they exercise their constitutional right on Saturday.
