The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release and safe return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Rev Sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka.

The Command said the two victims were released on Saturday, 15 August 2026, and have safely returned.

Police said efforts were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding their release and obtain information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed intensified intelligence-led operations and a manhunt for those responsible for the abduction.

The operation involves the Police, Department of State Services, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Agunechemba Security Operatives and other relevant security agencies.

The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.

The Police also thanked residents for their support and cooperation as the investigation continues.
