Adereti: Adeleke Has Failed Woefully, Osun On Life Support

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Osun State, Benjamin Adereti, has described the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as a “colossal failure”, accusing it of neglecting critical sectors including education, healthcare, roads and agriculture.

Adereti made the assessment while speaking on the governor’s record ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

He questioned the quality and spread of roads reportedly constructed by the Adeleke administration, arguing that infrastructure development alone could not be used to justify the government’s performance.

“If that is his only performance, then that government is a failure,” Adereti said.

He also raised concerns over what he described as a severe shortage of teachers in the state.

“We have a deficit of over 28,000 teachers,” he alleged,

questioning how the state could develop its education sector without adequate mathematics, physics and chemistry teachers.

The APC candidate equally challenged the governor to account for his performance in healthcare, asking how many doctors, nurses and health workers had been recruited during the administration’s tenure.

“How many health care centres can you go in the state and find doctors and find nurses? How many doctors have been employed in the past three and a half years? How many nurses, how many health record workers?” he asked.

Adereti said the APC would adopt a different approach if elected, beginning with an emergency programme to strengthen the state’s workforce and public services.

“Osun is on life support,” he declared.
He said the APC administration would implement short-, medium- and long-term plans, with immediate emphasis on recruiting competent personnel, particularly in education and healthcare.

“We are going to massively recruit competent workers to shore up the workforce, especially in the health sector and in the education sector,” he said.

Adereti also promised to recruit young people into the state civil service, arguing that the age profile of the workforce had created a significant gap that needed to be addressed.

On infrastructure, he said an APC government would embark on massive construction and rehabilitation of internal roads across the state.

“We are also going to embark on massive internal road construction, because we have a lot of roads that are in dire states,” he said.

He further promised to revive modern agricultural centres and renovate health facilities that were no longer suitable for use.

“In the health sector, we’re also going to start immediate work in renovating most of our health centres that are not habitable so that people can get access to good and quality healthcare,” Adereti said.

He urged voters to compare the records and plans of the competing parties before deciding who should govern Osun.
