Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has said members of the opposition are unhappy with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for expressing appreciation to President Bola Tinubu over his electoral victory.

Sani made the remarks in a post on his official X account, saying some opposition members expected Adeleke to adopt a more confrontational posture towards the President.

“Most members of the opposition are not happy with Governor Adeleke for ‘thanking’ President Tinubu for his electoral victory,” Sani said.

He noted that the opposition wanted Adeleke to be confrontational, but argued that the governor’s appreciation was understandable if the President played a role in protecting his electoral mandate.

“They want the Governor to be confrontational. If the President had not been helpful in securing his mandate and preventing any attempt to temper with it, the Governor wouldn’t have been so appreciative,” he said.

Sani further argued that winning an election involves more than securing votes at polling units, stressing the importance of the subsequent collation and validation process.

“Electoral victory is a product of two components; Winning the votes and securing the Collation and victory of the vote,” he said.

According to him, the second component has determined the fate of several politicians who secured votes but ultimately lost their elections.

“There are many politicians today who lost elections because of the LATTER,” Sani added.
