Adeleke Alleges EFCC Plot To Freeze Osun Accounts Ahead of Governorship Poll

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze the state government’s bank accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, on Tuesday, the governor said he had received credible reports indicating that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to freeze all Osun State Government accounts as well as the personal accounts of top government officials.

According to the statement, Adeleke described the alleged move as “the height of lawlessness,” claiming it was aimed at crippling government activities in the days leading to the governorship election.

The governor maintained that there was no legal basis for such an action, insisting that the EFCC lacked the constitutional authority to freeze the accounts of a state government.

He said the alleged plan was intended to paralyse governance and disrupt the operations of his administration before voters head to the polls on August 15.

Meanwhile, in a separate post on his official X page, Adeleke announced that his administration had disbursed another round of palliative payments to Osun State workers and pensioners.

“We Have Just Paid Another Round of Palliative to Workers and Pensioners in Osun State,” the governor wrote.

He said the payments reflected his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees, noting that Osun was among the first states to introduce periodic palliative payments even before the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

“This reflects the clear difference in our approach to governance. While the past administration instituted hardship and neglect workers’ welfare, our administration is committed to ensuring that every worker and retiree receives the dignity, support and recognition they deserve,” Adeleke stated.

He added, “We will continue to put the welfare of our civil servants and pensioners at the heart of governance because a motivated workforce remains the foundation of sustainable development and shared prosperity in Osun State.”

The EFCC had yet to respond to the governor’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
