Lamine Yamal has overtaken Kylian Mbappe in the list of the youngest players to reach a FIFA World Cup final after helping Spain secure a 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals.
Goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro sent Spain into their first World Cup final since winning the tournament in 2010, where they will face defending champions Argentina.
According to a report published by Ballon d’Or, Yamal reached the final at 19 years and one day**, surpassing Mbappe, who was 19 years and 202 days old when he featured in France’s victorious run to the 2018 World Cup final in Russia.
The Barcelona star is now the fourth-youngest player in history to reach a World Cup final, behind only Brazilian greats Pele and Ronaldo Nazario, as well as Italy’s Giuseppe Bergomi.

The report also highlighted Yamal’s impressive record against France, noting that three of his seven goals for Spain have come against Les Bleus, with all three strikes arriving in semi-final matches.
Spain have now eliminated France in the semi-finals of three consecutive major tournaments—the UEFA European Championship in 2024, the UEFA Nations League in 2025 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Yamal, who won the Kopa Trophy in both 2024 and 2025, will now have the opportunity to cap his remarkable rise by helping Spain win their second FIFA World Cup title when they face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in Sunday’s final.
