World Hepatitis Day: First Lady Calls for Increased Awareness, Access to Treatment

First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased awareness and improved access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care for people affected by viral hepatitis.

Tinubu made the call in a message, on Monday, July 27, commemorating World Hepatitis Day 2026, where she joined the global community in raising awareness about the disease and the need for collective action to eliminate it as a public health threat.

The First Lady said this year’s theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” underscores the importance of educating people about the disease and addressing barriers that limit access to life-saving health services.

She said, “This year’s theme, ‘Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,’ reminds us of the need to increase our resolve to educate people about the disease. We should remove barriers that prevent people from accessing life-saving health services.”

Tinubu urged Nigerians and stakeholders to work together to reduce stigma associated with hepatitis, promote early diagnosis, and strengthen efforts towards achieving the global target of eliminating hepatitis by 2030.

“Together, we can reduce stigma, promote early diagnosis, and strengthen our commitment to eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030,” she added.
