Trump Prioritises Veterans For Trucking Jobs

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an expansion of his administration’s programme aimed at removing non-English-speaking commercial truck drivers from American roads while creating more opportunities for U.S. military veterans in the trucking industry.

Speaking on the initiative, Trump claimed that authorities had already removed more than 24,000 non-English-speaking drivers from operating commercial vehicles and had compelled states to revoke more than 28,000 commercial driver’s licences (CDLs) that he said were unlawfully issued to undocumented immigrants.

“We’ve already removed more than 24,000 non-English speakers from behind the wheel. We’ve also forced states to cancel more than 28,000 commercial driver’s licenses unlawfully issued to illegal aliens,” Trump said.

The president said the administration would replace those drivers with qualified American veterans, particularly those with experience operating heavy military vehicles.

“As we get illegal aliens off the roads today, we’re also taking action to replace these unqualified migrant truck drivers with highly qualified American veterans,” he said.

Trump added that veterans who have driven heavy trucks during military service would automatically qualify for a commercial driver’s licence, while those without such experience would have access to an accelerated training programme.

“Any American who has driven a heavy truck for our military will automatically be eligible for a commercial driver’s license, and it’s good paying jobs too,” Trump said.

The announcement forms part of the administration’s broader immigration enforcement and workforce policies, which it says are intended to strengthen road safety while expanding employment opportunities for American veterans.
