Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 27 kidnapped victims, foiled multiple abduction attempts and recovered livestock and motorcycles during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.

The military said troops from the Forward Operating Bases in Shagari and Sifawa, acting on intelligence on July 20, stormed Wanke and Kaura communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State after reports of terrorist activity.

On reaching Kaura, the troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to flee.

Six kidnapped victims were rescued, while livestock and two motorcycles were recovered.

The victims were later reunited with their families.

In another operation the same day, troops operating in Gandi, alongside the State Security Community Guard Corps, rescued 10 kidnap victims who had escaped from their captors and were found wandering in the bush at Badanma community in Rabah Local Government Area.

The victims, including men, women and children, were handed over to community leaders before reuniting with their families.

On July 21, troops of Combat Team 12 responded to a distress call after terrorists blocked the Gummi–Sokoto road in an attempt to abduct travellers.

The troops engaged the attackers, rescued 11 kidnapped persons and recovered one motorcycle.

The Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, while urging residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations against terrorist and criminal groups in the region.
