Troops, Community Leaders Strengthen Security Partnership In Zamfara

The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to tackling insecurity in Mayanchi and other vulnerable communities through closer collaboration with residents.

The assurance came during a meeting with executives of the Mayanchi Development Association, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Barga, at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau on Friday.

During the meeting, Barga commended troops for their efforts but raised concerns over recurring terrorist attacks that have claimed lives, destroyed property and displaced residents.

He appealed for improved response to distress calls, reinforcement of troops and equipment, periodic troop rotation, and support for community-backed security infrastructure.

He also pledged the community’s continued cooperation with security agencies through the provision of credible intelligence.

Responding, Major General Idris described community partnership as critical to addressing insecurity, stressing that security is a collective responsibility requiring a whole-of-society approach.

He assured the delegation that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to restoring peace in Mayanchi and other affected communities, adding that several ongoing operations, though not always visible to the public, would deliver positive results.

The Theatre Commander urged residents to remain patient and continue providing timely and credible information to support military operations.

The meeting formed part of the military’s non-kinetic strategy to strengthen civil-military relations, improve intelligence sharing and build trust with host communities in the North-West.

The engagement ended with a visit by the delegation to the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, a monument honouring Operation FANSAN YAMMA personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty since the operation began in 2024.
