‘Tinubu Said We Can’t Abandon Old Projects’ – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s mandate is that no old project be abandoned while new ones are carried out.

NEWSNGR reports that Wike spoke on Thursday, during his monthly media chat on the state of the nation in Abuja.

Wike explained that many projects completed by the FCT Administration under his leadership were awarded 15 to 16 years ago.

He said, “The president said we can’t abandon old projects and while we can’t abandon old projects we must also see that we carry out new projects.

“I can tell you that 60 percent of the projects we have done for the past three years were projects that were awarded 15 to 16 years ago but abandoned.

“And if we had allowed that you will now know what would have happened in Abuja.

“Even if we do any new thing, you will say look at these areas that have been abandoned. So what we did first was to make sure that projects that were awarded and abandoned, let us see how to finish them, which we have done, not less than 70 percent.”

In other news, the Ebonyi State Government has denied claims that Governor Francis Nwifuru threatened  Wike during a political rally in Abakaliki.

The government said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not create a rift between Nwifuru and Wike by allegedly twisting the governor’s remarks at the endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abakaliki by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh.

Omebeh said Nwifuru did not at any time issue a threat against Wike during the rally held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
