Betty Otimenyin Takes Over as First Female AIG of Police Zone 8

AIG Betty Otimenyin has made history as the first female Assistant Inspector General of Police to head Zone 8, Lokoja, following her official assumption of office as the 34th AIG overseeing Kogi and Kwara states.

Speaking after assuming duty on Thursday, the new AIG thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for entrusting her with the leadership of the zone.

She pledged to build on the achievements of her predecessors, particularly the efforts of the Commissioners of Police in Kogi and Kwara State Commands, while strengthening the fight against crime across the zone.

The new AIG said she would work closely with stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders and other security agencies to tackle kidnapping, banditry, cultism and other criminal activities.

“My office will work assiduously with everybody. We shall treat everyone equally and ensure that the zone is free of kidnapping and banditry. Criminals will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” she said.

According to her, security remains a collective responsibility, adding that her administration will prioritise collaboration with sister security agencies through the Kogi and Kwara State Commands.

“The security architecture is already in place. My coming as the present AIG will only add value and build on what is already working,” she added.

On recent attacks on schools in parts of Kogi State, AIG Otimenyin assured residents that proactive measures would be intensified through school safety initiatives.

She directed Divisional Police Officers across the zone to step up surveillance and conduct regular patrols around schools within their areas of responsibility.

The AIG also pledged to leverage her experience to sustain ongoing joint security operations, working closely with the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Kankarofi, and other security agencies to enhance the safety of schools and communities, particularly in identified flashpoints.
