The Taraba State Government has concluded its three-day recruitment exercise for the Taraba Fire Service, with successful candidates set to undergo professional training at the Federal Fire Service Academy in Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and firefighting capacity across the state.

Speaking at the end of the exercise on Friday, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Haruna Abubakar, said the recruitment forms part of the state government’s strategy to strengthen the Taraba Fire Service by engaging qualified personnel capable of operating modern firefighting equipment recently procured under the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.

 

Abubakar explained that the successful applicants would undergo intensive professional training designed to enhance their operational skills, improve emergency response capabilities and boost the overall effectiveness of firefighting services across Taraba State.

According to him, the recruitment process was conducted in a transparent, fair and inclusive manner, with applicants drawn from all 16 local government areas and their respective wards.

 

He disclosed that candidates underwent comprehensive physical, mental and medical assessments to determine their suitability for the demanding nature of firefighting duties.

“Only candidates who successfully meet all the stipulated requirements will be shortlisted, while those found medically unfit or unable to satisfy the recruitment criteria will be disqualified,” he said.

 

The Permanent Secretary assured that successful candidates would be offered employment by the Taraba State Government upon completing the mandatory training programme at the Federal Fire Service Academy.

 

He commended Governor Kefas for prioritising the strengthening of the state’s fire service through increased manpower and investment in modern firefighting equipment, noting that the initiative would significantly improve fire prevention, emergency preparedness and disaster response across the state.

 

Also speaking, the Project Manager of Nigerbird Engineering Consultants/Contractors, Victor Fidi, described the recruitment exercise as transparent, credible and professionally conducted.

 

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Taraba State Government in strengthening fire safety infrastructure and building a more efficient emergency response system for the benefit of residents.
