South Africa’s Tyla cancels Lagos concert after backlash

Grammy-winning South African artiste Tyla has quietly removed Lagos from the schedule of her upcoming A*Pop world tour following backlash from Nigerian fans over renewed concerns about xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The singer had earlier announced that her global tour would include a Lagos performance slated for December 22. However, the announcement sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians calling for a boycott of the show.

The backlash comes amid fresh reports of xenophobic violence targeting Nigerians in South Africa, reigniting long-standing tensions between the two countries.

While some fans argued that music should remain separate from political and diplomatic issues, others insisted that Tyla should address the situation before performing in Nigeria.

Public figures also weighed in on the controversy. Media personality Do2dtun questioned the promotion of the Lagos concert, while activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore urged Nigerians to channel their frustration toward political leadership rather than the artiste.

Although Tyla and her management team have not issued an official statement, checks on major ticketing platforms show that Lagos is no longer listed among the tour stops.

The updated schedule now excludes the December 22 Lagos date, with tickets currently available only for other international venues and her South African performances.
