PSC Sacks Four Senior Police Officers, Sanctions 31 Others
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of four senior police officers over alleged misconduct.
The commission also approved disciplinary measures against 31 other officers for various acts of misconduct.
In a statement, the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the decisions were taken at the commission’s plenary meeting held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.
He said the dismissed officers were found culpable of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts unbecoming of public officers.
The commission also approved the reduction in rank of 10 senior officers.
According to the statement, three Superintendents of Police were reduced to Deputy Superintendents of Police, while two Deputy Superintendents of Police were reduced to Assistant Superintendents of Police.
Five Assistant Superintendents of Police were also reduced to Inspectors.
The PSC further approved the compulsory retirement of two officers in the public interest.
Other sanctions included severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five officers, warning letters to three officers and a letter of advice to one officer.
Seven officers were exonerated and cleared of wrongdoing.
The Chairman of the commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), said the PSC would not tolerate indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force.
“The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers,” Argungu said.
“The Commission will continue to uphold discipline in the Force and match all forms of misconduct with commensurate disciplinary actions.”
He added that the commission would also continue to reward deserving officers through its established reward system.
