Obi: I May Not Be Alive to Contest 2027 Election
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for 2027, says he may not survive to contest the election, citing what he described as deliberate government interference in his life and businesses.
Speaking in an interview on “With Chude,” hosted by Chude Jideonwo and shared on X on Wednesday, Obi said when asked if he would definitely be on the ballot in 2027: “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive.”
The former Anambra State governor said he was not making a formal accusation, but insisted that unnamed authorities were behind the routine obstacles he faces.
He claimed the pattern extends beyond him to other opposition figures. “They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally,” he said, adding that he has been denied entitlements due to him.
Obi recounted an incident at an airport where officials allegedly clamped his vehicle while leaving others untouched. When he identified himself, he said the officer in charge brushed him off. “But I said, ‘Look at the cars of other people.’ And you could see them talking to each other, as if, ‘Who is this one?’” he said.
He also said associates now avoid being seen with him publicly, with some supporters privately asking him to stay away from family events. “I have people send me invitations and say, ‘My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come,’” he said.
