The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced a full-scale Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) in Calabar, Cross River State, as part of the 2026 National Disaster Preparedness and Response Campaign.
The exercise brings together emergency response agencies and other critical stakeholders to assess the country’s preparedness, strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance response capacity for real-life emergencies.
According to NEMA, the simulation uses realistic emergency scenarios to improve operational readiness and reinforce collaboration among agencies responsible for disaster management.

“The exercise is reinforcing collaboration, improving operational readiness, and promoting a culture of preparedness that saves lives and protects communities,” the agency said.
NEMA stressed that disaster preparedness remains a critical component of effective emergency management.
“Preparedness is not an option—it is a necessity,” the agency added.
The simulation exercise forms part of NEMA’s nationwide efforts to improve disaster response capabilities and ensure quicker, more coordinated interventions during emergencies.
