Nasarawa Governor Sacks Six Commissioners In Cabinet Reshuffle, Targets Fresh Ideas And Lithium Revenue

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has relieved six commissioners of their appointments in a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at injecting fresh ideas, strengthening governance and ensuring the delivery of his administration’s mandate.

The Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, announced the development on Tuesday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Lafia.

Magaji said the affected commissioners were in charge of the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Sundry Matters.

He explained that the decision was taken to reorganise the administration, introduce fresh energy and improve performance during the remaining period of Sule’s tenure.

According to him, the removal of the commissioners should not be interpreted as a verdict of poor performance, as the State Executive Council acknowledged their commitment, efficiency and contributions while in office.

“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Governor Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” he said.

Magaji added that the former commissioners would remain part of the government’s political structure and could be considered for other assignments in the future.

He said the names of their replacements would be announced through the appropriate official channels.

The SSG also disclosed that the council considered strategies for increasing the state’s internally generated revenue by taking advantage of expanding investments in the lithium sector.

He said the discussions followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa State by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

According to Magaji, the state government is developing measures to maximise the economic benefits of lithium mining and processing, including potential revenue, employment and investment opportunities.

He added that further details of the decisions reached by the council on the lithium sector would be made public at the appropriate time.
