The Nigerian military has established a new Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Sayaya, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, to strengthen ongoing operations against banditry and support the return of displaced residents.
Military sources said the base was established by Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA following persistent attacks by armed bandits that forced residents to flee the community.
According to the sources, the deployment is intended to prevent bandits from using Sayaya as a launch point for attacks and as a logistics route to their enclaves, many of which were destroyed during Operation CLEAN SWEEP III.

“The deployment is aimed at denying terrorists and bandits the use of Sayaya as a staging ground for attacks and a logistics corridor to their enclaves,” the sources said.
The military said the new base would strengthen troop presence, improve security and support sustained offensive operations against criminal groups operating in Sayaya and neighbouring communities.
Authorities expressed optimism that the increased security presence would encourage displaced residents to return to their communities and resume farming and other economic activities.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Katsina State and the wider North-West.
“Troops will continue aggressive operations to eliminate banditry and other security threats,” the military said.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
