Lagos Commissions Upgraded Olusosun Road, Disposal Platforms

The Lagos State Government has commissioned the rehabilitated Road E and newly upgraded disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s waste management infrastructure.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the project marked “another important milestone in strengthening Lagos’ waste management infrastructure.”

He explained that the upgraded road and disposal platforms would significantly improve operations at the facility.

“The rehabilitated road and upgraded disposal platforms will improve truck access, increase operational efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and enhance waste disposal capacity in the immediate term,” he said.

Gbadegesin noted that the improvements were timely as the state prepares for the planned closure of the Olusosun Disposal Facility following the completion of the Transfer Loading Station (TLS) and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) currently being developed by Zoomlion Nigeria Limited.

“These improvements are particularly important as we prepare for the planned closure of the Olusosun Disposal Facility following the completion, over the coming months, of the Transfer Loading Station and Materials Recovery Facility.

Together, these investments will support our transition from landfill-dependent waste disposal to a more efficient, resource recovery-driven waste management system,” he said.

The LAWMA boss said the project reflected Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to improving environmental infrastructure across the State.

“This project reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to deliver cleaner, more reliable environmental services for Lagosians,” he added.

Gbadegesin also commended Zoomlion Nigeria Limited for rehabilitating Road E as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative and praised Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and other stakeholders for supporting the state’s waste management reforms.

“Our focus remains on building a modern, efficient and sustainable waste management system that serves the needs of a growing megacity,” he said.
