Kebbi to sponsor mass wedding for 300 couples

The Kebbi State Government has finalised arrangements to sponsor 300 couples in the third edition of its mass wedding programme.
The chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, made this known on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
He explained that beneficiaries were drawn from the state’s 21 local government areas and 225 wards after undergoing a screening process.
Argungu noted that the initiative, organised by the state government in collaboration with the foundation of the governor’s wife, is open to all qualified indigenes irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation.
He further stated that each groom would receive ₦250,000 as dowry in accordance with Islamic law, while all prospective couples would undergo mandatory medical screening to assess their health status and compatibility.
According to him, local government committees have also been instructed to confirm that each groom has a dependable source of income to support a family.
The wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place in Birnin Kebbi and will be attended by Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics, and other dignitaries.
Argungu added that the NANAS Foundation, led by the governor’s wife, will provide beds, mattresses, food items, and other household essentials to support the couples as they begin married life.
He also revealed that a monitoring committee has been established to oversee the welfare of the couples after the ceremony and ensure proper use of the items distributed.
