Nigeria’s Jennifer Obi Chukwuka made an impressive start to her campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning her heat in the women’s 200m with a new personal best.
According to Making Of Champions on its official X page, “Jennifer Obi Chukwuka 🇳🇬 made a winning debut in the women’s 200m heats at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow!
“She clocked a Personal Best (PB) of 23.26s (+1.4) to win her heat, comfortably ahead of Marie-Eloise Leclair 🇨🇦 who came 2nd in 23.50s.”
Chukwuka’s 23.26-second performance, recorded with a legal wind reading of +1.4m/s, marked an improvement on her previous personal best and saw her finish ahead of Canada’s Marie-Eloise Leclair, who clocked 23.50s.
The Nigerian sprinter’s heat victory strengthens Team Nigeria’s hopes in the athletics programme as the country continues its campaign at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Chukwuka will now turn her attention to the next stage of the women’s 200m competition, with Nigeria hoping she can maintain her impressive form and push for a place in the medal race.
