The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Imumolen, says his ambition is to reform and stabilise the party, which he claims has been plagued by internal disputes.
Speaking on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Wednesday, Imumolen blamed some party leaders for persistent divisions.
“What brought me into this contest was the fact that I wanted to sanitise Accord,” he said.
He alleged that some leaders had turned politics into a marketplace.
“Accord has been having some issues, and these issues are tied to some persons who are supposed to be leaders of the party… doing everything tied to political horse-trading.”
Imumolen claimed that rival factions were responsible for parallel congresses and primaries in several states.
“It is the Maxwell faction that held parallel primaries, not our faction. The peaceful Accord is our faction.”
He said 29 state chairmen had urged him to seek the party’s national chairmanship.
“They came to me after my election in 2023 and said, ‘Prof, please, we would love you to run for the national convention, become our chairman and stabilise this party.’”
The leadership tussle within the Accord Party remains the subject of ongoing court proceedings.
