I secretly got a job, but my family still thinks I’m unemployed

A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after revealing that he secretly got a new job but chose not to tell his family, who still believe he is unemployed.

The story was shared by Auntie Momoza, who posted the man’s account on her Facebook page.

According to the man, he lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and soon noticed a change in the way his family treated him.

He claimed that despite previously supporting several relatives financially, they began looking down on him because he no longer had a source of income.

The man also alleged that his girlfriend was no longer welcome to visit him because his family believed she was eating food he had not paid for.

The man revealed that he secured a new job at the beginning of the month but deliberately kept the news from his family.

Instead, he said he continued leaving the house every morning as though he was still searching for work.

Despite his experience, the man revealed only his girlfriend and nine-year-old nephew continued to treat him with respect.

Man Plans To Move Out

The man disclosed that he was expecting his first salary the following day and planned to buy his family two buckets of KFC despite how they had treated him.

However, he said he had already found a room to rent and intended to move out the following month.

In his words:

“Please keep me anonymous. I lost my job during Covid-19 in 2020. My family started treating me like an ice boy because I didn’t have any income. I’m talking about people I used to take care of financially.

“My girlfriend was no longer allowed to visit me because she was finishing food I didn’t buy. I got a job at the beginning of this month but didn’t tell any of my family members anything. Every morning I wake up and pretend I’m going to look for a job.

“They still make ugly comments about me. Even my nieces who are still in high school don’t respect me. The only person who sees me as a human being is my 9-year-old nephew.

“I’m getting my first salary tomorrow. Today they ate KFC and as usual I had cabbage and pap. I’m going to buy them two buckets of KFC tomorrow because I’m not like them.

“But next month I’m moving out. I have already found a room to rent. The only people who’ll enjoy my money are my girlfriend and my nephew. May God bless them.”
