GOC commissions 10-unit Soldiers’ Quarters In Zamfara

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General BP Koughna, has commissioned a newly constructed 10-unit Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) Quarters at the Headquarters 1 Brigade Nigerian Army Cantonment in Gusau, Zamfara State, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel.
The housing project, initiated by the Commander, 1 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Jimoh, was commissioned on Tuesday as part of efforts to provide better accommodation for soldiers and their families.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Koughna commended Brig. Gen. Jimoh for executing the project, describing it as a practical demonstration of the Chief of Army Staff’s Soldiers First Command Philosophy.
He said quality accommodation remains a key component of troop welfare, noting that improved living conditions boost morale, strengthen unit cohesion and enhance operational readiness.
The GOC also urged beneficiaries to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Jimoh said the project was conceived in recognition of the critical role played by senior non-commissioned officers in the Nigerian Army.
He added that the initiative aligned with the GOC’s vision on troop welfare and force protection, as well as the Chief of Army Staff’s commitment to prioritising soldiers’ welfare.
According to him, the new quarters will improve the standard of living of beneficiaries while fostering a stronger sense of belonging and commitment to duty.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior military officers, including Major General UG Ogeleka, Major General SA Emmanuel and Brigadier General N. Mbaka, alongside principal staff officers, soldiers and other invited guests.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of the project brief, the symbolic commissioning of the building, the presentation of keys to beneficiaries, exchange of plaques and group photographs.
