The Federal Government has commenced applications for its Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, giving eligible Nigerians access to smartphones, laptops and tablets through a consumer credit scheme.
The initiative, being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is designed to improve access to digital devices while encouraging the adoption of locally assembled products.
As part of the pilot phase, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
1. Applicants must provide their state of residence
Applicants are required to indicate their current state of residence by selecting any of Nigeria’s 36 states or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The information will be used for profiling and programme coordination.
2. Applicants must provide employment details
Applicants are expected to state their employment status, including whether they are salary earners, freelancers or self-employed, business owners, students, job seekers or National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. They may also provide their monthly income, although this is optional.
3. Applicants must belong to an eligible digital skills programme
The current phase of the programme is restricted to participants in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
However, the application portal also lists platforms such as Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub, indicating that participants from these programmes may be included in future phases.
