FG Begins Fresh Push to Recover Trillions in Unpaid Taxes

Published

on

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to recover billions of naira in unpaid taxes from companies and individuals across the country. Tax authorities say the move is aimed at increasing government revenue and reducing dependence on borrowing to fund national projects.

Officials explained that businesses and wealthy individuals who have failed to meet their tax obligations will be contacted to settle outstanding payments. They added that stricter enforcement measures, including audits and legal action, could be taken against persistent tax defaulters.

Economic experts say improving tax collection is important because it provides funds for roads, hospitals, schools, and other public services. However, many business owners have urged the government to also improve transparency and ensure tax money is used effectively for the benefit of citizens.

The renewed tax drive has sparked discussions among Nigerians, with some supporting tougher enforcement while others believe the government should focus equally on reducing wasteful spending. The coming months are expected to reveal how successful the new campaign will be in boosting national revenue.
