Former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji FasholaBabatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, describing the policies as difficult but necessary for Nigeria’s long-term growth and stability.

Fashola made the remarks during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines programme on Wednesday, where he assessed the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and the country’s development trajectory.

Speaking on the administration’s reform policies, Fashola said measures such as the tax reforms to reduce the burden of multiple taxation and other fiscal adjustments were difficult but essential decisions needed to stabilise the economy and improve government revenue.

He said, “It’s a tough job. He is the first person to accept that it is a tough job. We see a few policy initiatives: the Monetary Policy Initiatives; we’ve seen a fiscal policy and that policy has changed how tax is administered; eight tax laws have become four, a certain cadre of the Nigerian population have been exempt, that hasn’t happened before.

“What is the impact of that on the cost of living? What are the metrics, who are the people being impacted? We’ve seen changes in Value Added Tax (VAT); VAT has been removed from Diesel, Petrol, CNG, Real Estate transactions; we now need to measure how that is impacting people.”

TVC News Online reports that the President Bola Tinubu administration has introduced key economic reforms since its assumption of office, which have been hailed by the international economic community with calls to make life easier for vulnerable Nigerians.
