Court Grants Bail To Ekiti APC Gov Aspirant in Cyberstalking Suit

An Ekiti State Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has granted bail to Abimbola Jumoke Olawunmi, an All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in the 2026 election, after she pleaded not guilty to four charges bordering on alleged cyber-stalking and false accusation.

Olawunmi was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday and taken before the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.

She pleaded not guilty to the four charges when they were read to her.

According to the charge sheet, the offences were allegedly committed in March 2026 within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

Counts I to III allege that Olawunmi “knowingly and intentionally transmitted communication on social media platforms, Facebook and TikTok, without authority, by posting the photographs and addresses of Mrs Yemisi Samuel Joluwe, Mr Adeleke Ajibade, and Mrs Okewale Olayemi, alongside threatening messages.”

The offences are said to be punishable under Section 398 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Count IV alleges that she “knowingly and intentionally made a false accusation against Mrs Yemisi Samuel Joluwe by stating that she embezzled Ekiti State Government funds, without any justification.” This is said to contravene Section 106 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Police Prosecutor, Samson Osobu, informed the court that the prosecution was not opposed to the defendant’s bail application.

Counsel to the defendant, A.O. Okunade, urged the court to grant bail, describing the offences as bailable.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail on self-recognition.

The court thereafter adjourned the matter to July 28, 2026, for further hearing.
