Chelsea have been handed a £10 million fine and a suspended two-window transfer ban by the Football Association over secret payments made to agents during Roman Abramovich’s ownership of the club.
According to Sky Sports in a post on its official X page on Friday, the sanctions relate to undisclosed payments made to agents while Abramovich was Chelsea’s owner.
The disciplinary action comes after an investigation into historical financial dealings at Stamford Bridge, with the case focusing on payments that were allegedly concealed from the relevant football authorities.
While Chelsea will immediately pay the £10 million fine, the transfer ban has been suspended, meaning the Premier League club will only face the restriction if it commits further breaches within the period stipulated by the FA.
The latest sanctions add to the scrutiny surrounding Chelsea’s operations during Abramovich’s ownership, which ended in 2022 following the sale of the club to the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium.
Neither the FA nor Chelsea had released further details on the conditions attached to the suspended transfer ban at the time of filing this report.
