According to Romano, Brighton approved the decision to let Welbeck leave after the striker made a formal request to depart the club.
Welbeck, who joined Brighton in 2020 after leaving Watford, has been one of the club’s most influential attacking players in recent seasons, contributing important goals and leadership experience.
The move would see the former Manchester United and Arsenal forward return to a club competing in the UEFA Champions League as Chelsea continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
Romano also hinted that another signing could soon follow, revealing that former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is “coming soon.”
“Jordan Henderson: coming soon. 🔜”, he wrote.
