A barber identified as Emeka has been arrested in Umuahia, Abia State, over allegations that he secretly collected his customers’ hair for suspected ritual purposes, after police discovered a clay pot stuffed with human hair inside his one-room apartment.
The suspect was apprehended after the discovery was made on Tuesday, July 28, following a complaint from his neighbour, Mr Johnson Ikenga, who reported to police that Emeka had been threatening him.
During the arrest, officers searched Emeka’s apartment and found the clay pot filled with human hair alongside other suspected fetish items.
When questioned, the suspect admitted the pot belonged to him but could not explain what he used the items for or where he obtained the hair.
The discovery has stirred unease in the community, with residents alleging the hair may have belonged to customers who had visited his shop for haircuts.
Emeka has since been taken to the Central Police Station in Umuahia, where detectives have commenced further investigation.
As of the time of filing, the Abia State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or disclose any formal charges against the suspect.
