Bandits Abduct Bungudu LG Chairman, Relatives In Zamfara

Suspected armed bandits have abducted Nura Umar Bungudu, the chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara state and some of his family members

They were abducted Thursday night when the armed men stormed the council boss residence in Zango community in Bungudu town

Sources say on arrival at the area, the bandits went straight to the Local Government chairman’s house and engaged the security personnel guarding the house, leading to the death of two policemen and two members of the local vigilante.

The bandits after over powering the security men, whisked away the council chairman and some of his family members to an unknown destination

A resident who pleaded anonymity says security re-enforcement was made immediately and pursued the assailants and five of the children were rescued unhurt, but the chairman, his wife and a few children were taken away.

Zango community where Mr. Nura’s house is located about 20 kilometers from Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara state.

A resident of the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, blamed the attack on the heavy weaponry used by the bandits and the activities of informants who allegedly aid their operations.

Efforts to get confirmation from the police proves abortive as spokesperson for the Zamfara police command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, was not responding to phone calls as of the time of filling this report.
