Army Hails EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Drive, Seeks Stronger Partnership Against Crime

The Nigerian Army has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its sustained efforts in combating corruption, describing the anti-graft agency as Nigeria’s “watchdog” and reaffirming its commitment to deeper collaboration in tackling economic crimes and insecurity.

The commendation came from the Commander of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano, Brigadier General S.A. Jimoh, during a courtesy visit to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Friday S. Ebelo, on Wednesday.

According to a statement shared by the EFCC on its official X handle, the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the military and the anti-corruption agency in addressing economic and financial crimes as well as security challenges.

Speaking during the visit, Jimoh praised the Commission’s contributions to the fight against corruption, saying its role remains indispensable to the country.

“One can only imagine the state of this country without the EFCC. The level of corruption and financial malpractices would have been unimaginable. The Commission has proven itself to be the watchdog of this nation, and we are committed to further cementing the relationship between our two institutions,” he said.

The Army commander also applauded the professionalism of the Commission, stressing that sustained cooperation between the military and the EFCC is critical to strengthening national security and promoting economic stability.

He further expressed concern over the growing involvement of young Nigerians in cybercrime, urging the Commission to intensify efforts to curb the menace, which he said poses a serious threat to the country’s international image and the future of its youth.

Responding, Ebelo assured the Nigerian Army of the EFCC’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the military and other security agencies.

“The EFCC is ready to work with the Nigerian Army at any time. We are just a phone call away. We must treat one another as children of the same father with different mothers serving the same mandate which is ensuring Nigeria’s internal security and be patriotic in defending its international image,” Ebelo said.

He also called for greater synergy among security agencies and relevant stakeholders, emphasising that unity of purpose remains essential to safeguarding Nigeria’s security and protecting its reputation on the global stage.
