Army Clears Man Earlier Reported As Terror Suspect

The Nigerian Army’s Operation HADIN KAI has cleared an individual previously reported as a suspected terrorist after investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the military said the individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation following the attack on Cross Kauwa.

The statement said troops acted “in accordance with established operational procedures” because of the prevailing security situation and the use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.

It added that “comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes did not establish that the individual has any affiliation to any known terrorist group.”

According to the military, investigations confirmed that Zein-Nur is “a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger who engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.”
Operation HADIN KAI said it has “consequently cleared the individual of any terrorist links.”

The Theatre Command reiterated that “all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and appropriate security screening to ensure that innocent civilians are distinguished from terrorist elements.”

It also reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action while “upholding the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.”
