Amusan Blazes Into Commonwealth Games 100m Hurdles Final With Historic Heat Run

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan sent a strong statement of intent in her bid for a third consecutive Commonwealth Games title after producing a sensational performance to qualify for the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The reigning Commonwealth champion stormed to victory in her heat in a wind-assisted 12.19 seconds (+3.8m/s), the fastest time ever recorded in the history of the Games, although the performance will not count as an official record due to the excessive tailwind.

Amusan eased clear of the field, finishing comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie, who clocked 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill secured third place in 12.69 seconds to also progress to the final.

The 29-year-old Nigerian’s blistering run is the third-fastest performance of her career under all conditions, underlining her impressive form heading into the medal race later on Thursday.

Nicknamed “Tobi Express,” the world record holder looked in complete control throughout the race, effortlessly booking her place in the final as she continues her quest to retain the Commonwealth title she previously won in Birmingham and on the Gold Coast.

Amusan will now return to the track later in the day aiming to claim an unprecedented third straight Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.

A victory in the final would also boost Team Nigeria’s position on the medals table by adding another gold medal to the country’s tally at the Glasgow 2026 Games.
