“It’s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller.” We have lost a cherished friend and an iconic frontman; Lou had the power to lift everyone’s spirits at our gigs with a smile and a sardonic remark, and he won people over wherever we went, from every culture and corner of the world.” The band also thanked individuals who had contributed to Koller’s medical fund, adding that his “battle is over now and he can finally rest”.

Lou Koller first revealed his condition to fans in the summer of 2024, telling them that physicians discovered a cancer in his oesophagus that expanded into his stomach.

The band Sick of It All canceled a European tour so that he could receive treatment, and the hardcore scene responded with charity performances and donations.

Soon after his death was announced, admirers flocked to social media to pay tribute to the singer, posting many old videos.

All about Lou Koller

Born in Queens, New York, he was reared with three brothers, one of whom became his Sick of It All bandmate Peter. He and his brother Pete would ultimately go into darker music, including Black Sabbath and Motörhead.

In a 2016 interview, he revealed that Judas Priest was his first introduction to heavy metal.

Koller and Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury formed the side group Blood from the Soul in 1993. The duo’s debut album, To Spite the Gland That Breeds, was released in 1993 by Earache Records. The group thereafter went on an indefinite break.

The studio albums released are Blood, Sweat, and No Tears (1989), Just Look Around (1992), Scratch the Surface (1994), Built to Last (1997), Call to Arms (1999), Yours Truly (2000), Life on the Ropes (2003), and Death to Tyrants (2006).
