Agbakoba: President of Nigeria Can Fire IG at Will, But Cannot Fire Chief Justice of Nigeria At Will
During an appearance on Arise Tv on Wednesday, July 1st 2026, Olisa Agbakoba has reiterated the need for constitutional safeguards to ensure that state police commanders operate independently of state governors, arguing that the success of state policing will depend on protecting security chiefs from political interference.
“Once we create that process—I may not be too clear in how the process will evolve—and if we had had a public forum to discuss this, I’m sure we would have come out with a very good format,” Agbakoba said.
